ABOUT
Guangzhou, China · Meridian International
THE FOUNDER
I am a South African and Cypriot dual citizen who has lived in Guangzhou for several years. I came to China initially to teach at an international school — a position I continue to hold while building this business. Years spent in one of the world's most significant manufacturing cities gave me a perspective that is genuinely difficult to develop from anywhere else.
The idea for Meridian International came from observing a consistent pattern: international buyers were being poorly served by their sourcing arrangements. They worked with intermediaries they had never met in person. They paid prices they could not verify. They received shipments that did not match approved samples. When disputes arose, they had limited contractual recourse because their agreements lacked the structure to enforce them.
I hold a Bachelor of Laws degree, which means I approach commercial arrangements with a particular attention to risk, structure, and the conditions under which things can go wrong. I also live 30 minutes from the largest manufacturing district in China. The combination — legal training, on-the-ground presence, and a registered Hong Kong entity behind the work — is genuinely uncommon in this market.
Meridian International is intentionally small. A limited client base means each engagement receives proper attention. The objective is not transactional volume — it is a small number of sourcing relationships that produce consistent results over time. If you are seeking a large agency, we are not the right fit. If you require someone who will personally attend a factory on short notice because a question has arisen about your order, that is exactly what this firm provides.

HOW WE WORK
If a supplier we recommended is not performing, you will hear about it before you ask. If a project presented to us is not well-suited to our capabilities or your parameters, we will say so directly. The cost of a candid conversation is always lower than the cost of a relationship damaged by withheld information.
This market is full of vague claims about quality, expertise, and trust. We substitute those with verifiable specifics — documented prices, actual timelines, named suppliers, photographic evidence. Where we cannot be specific, we provide a clear explanation of why, not a placeholder.
We would rather earn a smaller return on a durable client relationship than maximise a single engagement at the expense of it. This shapes every recommendation we make — including when the right recommendation is to pursue a different route entirely.
The most efficient way to determine whether we are the right fit is a brief, direct exchange about what you are sourcing. There is no obligation to proceed, and no standard pitch to sit through.
